TV Recap: S11E11 – American Ninja Warrior Season 11 Baltimore City Finals 2019

American Ninja Warrior Season 11 2019: Baltimore Maryland City Finals Season 11 Episode 11

Just two weeks of City Finals remain!!! And don’t forget we still have the Power Tower. It’s still here and it’s an even more daunting version than the first one.

Like the qualifying rounds, the ninjas with the top two times will compete on the Power Tower. This time, the prize is a do-over on Stage 1 or Stage 2 in the National Finals.

Also, only the top 12 ninjas (plus top 2 females) will qualify for National Finals instead of 15 as in year’s past.

Also tonight, we get a patented ANW movie promotion. One of the obstacles (they don’t name it in the beginning) is inspired by Angry Birds 2.

The Course: Shrinking Steps (new obstacle), Double Twister, Dangerous Curves (new obstacle), Hazard Cones (new obstacle), Crank It Up, Warped Wall, Salmon Ladder, Angry Birds (new obstacle), Cain Lane, Spider Trap

Anthony Eardley, 28-year-old Welder

Eardley has done jobs welding underwater (that’s insane :/).

And Eardley’s parents have adopted him and his seven siblings, so he runs for them tonight.

Eardley starts quickly, making fast work of the first two obstacles.

Eardley’s run continued mistake free through Hazard Cones, when Eardley completely skipped the last cone on the fourth obstacle.

Now for the obstacle that ended Eardley’s qualifying run: Crank It Up.

No problems this time!!! Eardley finished the fifth obstacle and headed up the Warped Wall for the first time.

Onto the 2nd half of the course, where Eardley handled Salmon Ladder like he built one in his backyard (which he did).

But the Angry Birds obstacle ended Eardley’s solid run.

During the break…

Logan Kreglow fell on Salmon Ladder.

Ryan Lee fell on Angry Birds.

Eli Bell fell on Crank It Up.

Karter Ohlson, 19-year-old College Student

Ohlson’s father had a heart attack several years ago, which dramatically changed things for their family and serves as inspiration for Ohlson tonight.

And the youngest competitor in Baltimore’s City Finals worked quickly through the first two obstacles.

Dangerous Curves is where Ohlson fell in qualifying. But she got it done this time with a one-foot landing.

And “Karter the Crusher” saved herself on Hazard Cones, sticking the landing with her hands and pulling herself up.

Ohlson did fall on Crank It Up, so we’ll see if that’s good enough for a spot in National Finals.

Kevin Liang, 32-year-old Financial Trader

Liang is looking to atone for a spectacular fall last season.

Liang was “jacked up” and looking good after three obstacles.

And after running across the Hazard Cones, Liang took on Crank It Up, the obstacle he fell on in qualifying.

Unfortunately, he would fall here in City Finals as well.

During the break…

Tristen Poffenberger fell on Dangerous Curves.

Daniel Eiskant fell on Crank It Up.

Anthony DeFranco fell on Angry Birds.

Clayton Mirage, 22-year-old Marine Biologist Student

“Shark Boy” loves sharks (not that you needed me to tell you that).

And “Shark Boy” stayed out of the water through the first three obstacles.

After flying over the Hazard Cones, Mirage took on Crank It Up, the obstacle he fell on in qualifying.

But no issues with the fifth obstacle this time for “Shark Boy.”

And Mirage made it up his first Warped Wall and readied for the 2nd half of the course.

Mirage overcame a small misstep easily as he moved past Salmon Ladder.

No one has completed Angry Birds tonight.

And Mirage would not either, falling at the same point everyone else as so far.

During the break…

Cara Poalilo fell on Dangerous Curves.

Alex Goodwin fell on Salmon Ladder.

Ryan Rattazzi fell on Angry Birds.

Mike Silenzi, 32-year-old Gym Owner

Joined in progress, “The Stallion” has an all-star group of fans cheering him on.

Baltimore’s number 8 qualifier made it up the Wall again and moved on to the 2nd part of the course.

Silenzi looked spent as he hit Angry Birds. He kept a quick pace to try and establish the best time getting to that 8th obstacle.

And it’s a good thing because like everyone else, Silenzi fell on the same spot everyone has fallen on Angry Birds so far.

Angela Gargano, 28-year-old Fitness Model

Gargano had a severe knee injury on the course last year. But that did not stop her from qualifying for City Finals this season.

Gargano moved fairly easily through the first three obstacles, setting up a showdown with Hazard Cones.

The fourth obstacle is where Gargano fell in qualifying.

But she made it this time, grabbing on to the edge of the platform and pulling herself up to the platform.

She would not make it past Crank It Up, but that run puts Gargano in the running for National Finals.

During the break…

Abby Clark fell on Crank It Up.

Joe Capobianco fell on Angry Birds.

Julius Ferguson fell on Angry Birds (fastest time of the night so far).

Joe Moravsky, 30-year-old Meteorologist

Moravsky missed the buzzer in a qualifying course for the first time after he couldn’t make it up the Mega Wall.

Moravsky kept a good pace throughout, including skipping the final cone on Hazard Cones (again).

With the Mega Wall not an option tonight, Moravsky had no issue with the standard wall.

Can the “Weather Man” be the first complete Angry Birds?

He would not.

Just like everyone else, he was unable to keep hold on to the blind grab on the 8th obstacle.

Lucas Reale, 20-year-old Ninja Coach

Reale’s been training with Dave Cavanaugh. And Cavanagh’s been a huge influence in Reale’s life since he lost his father to suicide.

Reale had no issue with the course’s first three obstacles.

Reale kept up his solid pace flying over Hazard Cones.

He needs to get to Angry Birds in 2:48 to claim the night’s fastest time so far.

Reale made it to the 8th obstacle in 2:47, guaranteeing a spot for him the National Finals.

Reale tried a different technique on Angry Birds by skipping the blind grab no one’s been able to hold on to.

Despite the new course of action, Reale still fell like everyone else who’s tried Angry Birds so far tonight.

During the break…

Conor Galvin, Garrett Lam, and Chris Wilczewski ALL FELL on Angry Birds.

But you know who did complete the 8th obstacle? A course tester from earlier. So just so you know, the 8th obstacle IS possible!!!

Allyssa Beird, 28-year-old School Teacher

If Beird makes it through Crank It Up, she guarantees herself a spot in National Finals.

Beird needed a save on Hazard Cones to stay alive.

And she will not qualify based on time. Beird had to beat the fifth obstacle to advance.

Beird fell on Crank It Up in qualifying.

But she did it this time, clinching her spot in National Finals.

Now, how far can Beird make it on the course?

No need to hurry since her spot in Vegas is clinched, so Beird was methodical working her way through the Salmon Ladder.

But like all other ninjas so far, Beird fell reaching for that pesky blind grab

During the break…

Branden McWilliams fell on Angry Birds (he’s going to the National Finals).

Brandon Stenta fell on Salmon Ladder.

Lucio Batista fell on Angry Birds (he’s going to the National Finals as well).

Jamie Rahn, 30-year-old Ninja Coach

Joined in progress, “Captain NBC” finished Crank It Up.

After the Warped Wall, Rahn took on Salmon Ladder without any issue.

Except one issue: Rahn’s time would not qualify for National Finals if he falls right here.

And like everyone else, “Captain NBC” did not make it past the 8th obstacle.

Rahn will not be going to Vegas this year.

Najee Richardson, 28-year-old Motivational Speaker

Richardson fought through the first underwater obstacle ever on ANW in Vegas last season.

He completed the obstacle, but “The Phoenix’s” fight with asthma kept him from completing the obstacle in time.

Now, Richardson is a spokesman for those struggling with asthma, including speaking for the Philadelphia Fire Department on the issue.

Fast pacing is the key tonight, and Richardson did that in spades moving quickly through the first part of the course.

“The Phoenix” made it through to Angry Birds in number 2 position.

And like everyone else tonight, Richardson fell going for the blind grab on Angry Birds.

We’ll see if he did enough to make the Power Tower tonight.

Dave Cavanagh, 33-year-old Firefighter

Can Baltimore’s number one qualifier repeat the feat in City Finals?

Cavanagh is also the Speed Pass, so his spot in Vegas is secured no matter what happens here.

Cavanagh lives in a van, and it’s impressive!!! Well other than the need for various room changes depending on the situation.

The former walk-on ran like a man with nothing to lose at the start, taking no time between obstacles.

Cavanagh ran across Hazard Cones flawlessly.

Crank It Up produced no resistance at all as Cavanagh moved onto the 2nd half of the course.

“The King of the Walk-ons” made it up Salmon Ladder 25 seconds ahead of his student, Lucas Reale, giving him the number one spot for the night.

That also means Najee Richardson will not qualify for the Power Tower.

Now, can Cavanagh complete Angry Birds?

He could not.

The Angry Birds goes undefeated tonight, as not one ninja made it past the 8th obstacle.

Power Tower

Dave Cavanagh vs Lucas Reale

Cavanagh is the boss, Reale the employee.

Mentor vs student.

Veteran vs newcomer.

Reale missed a ring, allowing Cavanagh to pull away.

Cavanagh was on the ladder first, but Reale stayed close.

Reale was unable to make up the early distance he lost as Cavanagh hit the buzzer and took the Safety Pass.
