TV Recap: S02E03 – American Ninja Warrior Junior Kids 2020

American Ninja Warrior Junior Kids Season 2 2020, Episode 3

Season 2 of American Ninja Warrior Jr. rolls on!!!

Let’s review this season’s format:

-Just like last season, ninjas will compete in three divisions: 9-10 years old, 11-12 years old, and 13-14 years old. They will compete in head to head races.

The qualifying rounds feature four ninjas per division. They will start in a seeding round, with the two fastest ninjas from that round taking on the two slowest ninjas in the knockout round.

The winners of the two knockout rounds move on to the final showdown, where the winner will move on to the quarterfinals.

-New this season: instead of waiting until the end of the season to see all the winners, there will be a quarterfinal round episode after three episodes to determine who goes on to the semifinals.

-With the new format, there will only be three semifinal qualifiers, so the fourth spot will be determined with the two fastest non-winners competing for a wildcard spot.

9-10 Year Old Division (Ninja Mentor: Barclay Stockett)

The course: Shrinking Steps, Little Dipper, Spider Walls, Block Run, Flying Squirrel, 13 Foot Warped Wall (with two hand holds)

Seeding Round: Daniel Woods vs Bella Palmer

Bella is returning after competing in season 1 and coming just short of the semifinals while Daniel competes in Mountain Biking as well as in Ninja.

Bella got caught up on the start of Little Dipper, helping Daniel take a slight lead.

But Bella sped fast through Spider Walls taking the lead at the halfway point of the course.

And after a smooth run through Flying Squirrel, Bella climbed up the Warped Wall and claimed the win.

Seeding Round: Riley Cvitanich vs Barrett Eads

Barrett pariticipates in Civil War battle reenactments while Riley collects Pokeman cards.

Much like Bella, Barrett had difficulty getting the bar to move on Little Dipper.

And also like Bella, Barrett recoved on Spider Walls and took the lead at the midway point of the course.

But Barrett stumbled on Block Run, giving Riley a chance to pass him after a smooth run on the fourth obstacle.

By Flying Squirrel, the pair was dead even as they dismounted and made their way up the Warped Wall.

And in a dead heat atop the Wall, the replay showed the winner was….

Barrett by only .04 of a second!!!

During the break…

Knockout Round: Barrett Eads vs Daniel Woods

Barrett sumbled and fell on the Little Dipper and Daniel advanced to the final showdown.

Knockout Round: Bella Palmer vs Riley Cvitanich

Riley raced out to a quick lead.

But Bella stayed close behind and overtook “Riley the Rocket” on Flying Squirel.

After Bella performed a one swing dismount on the fifth obstacle, she made her way up the Warped Wall and advanced to the Final Showdown.

11-12 Year old Division (Ninja Mentor: Grant McCartney)

The course: Shrinking Steps, Little Dipper, Double Tilt Ladders, Block Run, Wing Nuts, 13 foot Warped Wall (one hand hold)

Seeding Round: Holden McNeil vs Tate Allen

Both Holden and Tate competed last season. Tate was runner-up in last season’s 11-12 year old division while Holden was a semi-finalist.

The two were even heading into the Tilt Ladders.

It was there that Tate swung from the first rung of the last ladder and took a big lead.

Tate would keep the lead all the way up the Warped Wall as “Big Game Tate” recorded another win.

During the break…

Seeding Round: Sabrina Levine vs Iris Flink

Sabrina hit her first ever buzzer after Iris fell.

Knockout Round: Tate Allen vs Iris Flink

Iris can do 45 crunches in one minute!!!

And Iris showed that core strength as she was even with Tate through two obstacles.

But just like his first race, “Big Game Tate” took a commanding lead on the third obstacle and didn’t look back.

But Iris did record her first buzzer.

Knockout Round: Sabrina Levine vs Holden McNeil

“The City Ninja,” Sabrina uses the city of New York as her personal playground and is big into fashion.

Holden raced out to a big lead early.

But both ninjas fell on the Little Dipper.

Because of that lead after obstacle one, Holden advances to the Final Showdown.

13-14 year old Division (Ninja Mentor: Meagan Martin)

The course: Floating Steps, Little Dipper, Crazy Cliffhanger, Block Run, Sky Hooks, 13-foot Warped Wall (no hand holds)

Seeding Round: Sophie Shaft vs Carson Edwards

Sophie trains Crossfit and qualified for the Crossfit Games, a training regimen she is teaching her sister, while Carson trains with ninja star Josh Salinas and runs the hurdles.

The two were even through the first half of the course.

Carson held a slight lead going into Sky Hooks.

Sophie got caught up on the fifth obstacle, and Carson raced up the Wall and picked up the win.

Seeding Round: Sierra Heflin vs Mazeiah Andrade

Sierra is “the princess ninja” sporting the most fashionable outfit of all ninja participants, while Mazeiah credits ninja with restoring his confidence (and he’s only been doing it for five months!!!)

Sierra hit bottom first on the platform of Little Dipper and bounced back into the Water.

Meanwhile, Mazeiah kept pushing forward and finished the course.

Knockout Round: Mazeiah Andrade vs Sophie Shaft

Both ninjas got caught up on Sky Hooks, but Sophie got through first and advanced to the Final Showdown.

Knockout Round: Carson Edwards vs Sierra Heflin

Carson raced out to a big lead early.

Sierra did overcome Little Dipper this race.

But Carson kept his lead all the way through to the top of the Wall.

“The Princess Ninja” did get a buzzer this time, but Carson is moving onto the Final Showdown.

9-10 year old Final Showdown: Daniel Woods vs Bella Palmer

Three Final Showdowns: three rematches this week.

Daniel took the early lead.

But just like her previous races, Bella raced out to the lead on the Spider Walls.

She held that lead all the way up the Warped Wall and onto the Quarterfinals.

But Daniel’s time was fast enough to place him on top of the Wildcard standings.

11-12 year old Final Showdown: Tate Allen vs Holden McNeil

“The Hurricane got off to a great start.

But Tate does what he does in completing the epic dismount on Double Tilt Ladders and racing to a spot in the Quarterfinals.

Holden, however, will advance to next week’s Wildcard Race thanks to his time in the previous race.

13-14 year old Final Showdown: Sophie Shaft vs Carson Edwards

These two ran even through the entire course keeping up a breakneck pace.

The race came down to the Sky Hooks, where Carson made it off just before Sophie.

He made it up the Wall and hit the buzzer, advancing to the quarterfinals.
