TV Recap: S13E02 – American Ninja Warrior Season 13 Qualifying Round 2 2021

American Ninja Warrior Season 13 2021: Qualifying Round 2 Season 13 Episode 2

Last week, the teen competitors, competing for the first time in ANW primetime, dominated.

Will they do so again?

Or will the veterans of American Ninja Warrior return to the top of the leaderboard this week?

And will someone tackle the Mega Wall and succeed?

Let’s take a look at this week’s course:

Shrinking Steps, Weight For It, Split Decision (Broken Bridge or Burn Rubber), Tipping Point (new obstacle), V Formation (new obstacle), Warped Wall

Jon Bundy, 39-year-old Optometrist

Bundy and his wife, Stacy, travel the world helping provide eye care to people around the world. But Stacy has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, so Jon is running for her tonight.

Bundy cleared Shrinking Steps, an obstacle that took him down two years ago.

After some celebrating, Bundy cleared the next two obstacles with ease.

But Bundy struggled to get the first part of Tipping Point to move and he eventually lost his grip on the fourth obstacle.

Zhanique Lovett, 34-year-old Personal Trainer

Lovett fell on Burn Rubber in the semi-finals last season.

Will she choose the obstacle that doomed her in St Louis?

She would…

and she made it past the third obstacle this time!!!

Lovett not only passed the first half of the course.

Lovett pushed it all the way to V Formation, where she made it to the 2nd half of the obstacle before slipping and falling.

During the break…

Derek Miyamoto fell on Broken Bridge.

Chris Crary fell on Burn Rubber.

Julius Ferguson, 35-year-old Rap Artist

Ferguson was living under a bridge when Dan Champagne, his friend and training partner, took him in and bought him a van (and fixed up the inside as well). Ferguson now uses that van to travel to training and competitions all over the country.

Ferguson made quick work of the first half of the course.

Ferguson’s solid run continued as he approached V Formation, an obstacle that took down 21 ninjas last week.

Unfortunately, Ferguson kicked the final handle on V Formation, making it a difficult grab that proved to be the end of Ferguson’s night.

During the break…

John Kodachi fell on Weight For It.

Stevi Hall fell on Tipping Point.

Vincent Pane fell on V Formation.

Dan Champagne, 32-year-old Financial Planner

Champagne is competing for the first time on the big stage.

Champagne needed to take his time to get his swings going on Weight For It.

But the planning paid off for the Financial Planner as he methodically completed obstacle two.

Champagne’s strong run continued all the way through four obstacles.

And on V Formation, Champagne skipped the fourth V and succeeded, becoming the first tonight to complete obstacle five.

Champagne made it up the Warped Wall and hit the buzzer, becoming the night’s first finisher as well!!!

Dan Champagne completes the course in 3:43.59.

During the break…

Ruben Arellano fell on V Formation.

Emmanuel Wells Jr. fell on Weight For It.

Rachel Luba fell on Shrinking Steps.

David Payne, 38-year-old Former Olympic Hurdler

Payne was on the 2008 US Olympic Track Team.

But he did not have a good run tonight as he fell on Weight For It.

Sarah Chang, 27-year-old Dental Student

After completing Shrinking Steps, Chang became the shortest competitor (4’10) to ever complete an obstacle.

And while Chang’s size made it difficult to build up momentum on Weight For It, Chang fought through it and completed the 2nd obstacle.

Chang made it all the way to Tipping Point before falling.

During the break…

Brittany Durant fell on Tipping Point.

Jose Gomez fell on V Formation.

Josiah Pippel, 15-year-old Freshman

Our first teen competitor of the night tonight keeps five reptiles in his room.

Pippel made quick work of the first half of the course.

Pippel kept up his promising run with impressive control on Tipping Point.

And with “Little Pip” (one of Pippel’s lizards) looking on, Pippel became the youngest ever to hit a buzzer!!!

Josiah Pippel completes the course in 2:53.76.

During the break…

True Becker fell on V Formation.

Olivia Colasuonno fell on Broke Bridge.

Rylie Johnston, 19-year-old College Student

Johnston’s dad competed in Season 7.

After that run, dad and daughter made a pact to compete together.

And daughter is running first.

Johnston had a little stumble on the platform before Broken Bridge.

Johnston did complete obstacle three. But she slipped for good on Tipping Point.

Lance Pekus, 34-year-old Rancher

The ninja veteran wasted no time attacking the course as he completed the first two obstacles.

Pekus passed on Burn Rubber and instead landed superman style on the finish of Broken Bridge.

Pekus lost the shirt as he prepared for V Formation.

But the “Cowboy Ninja” slipped and fell on the second half of the fifth obstacle.

During the break…

Cody Johnston (Rylie’s Dad) fell on V Formation.

David Truong fell on Weight For It.

Milton Nkunku fell on Shrinking Steps.

Kaden Lebsack, 15-year-old Sophomore

The ANW Junior runner up has been training and competing with some of the best ninjas in the country.

Lebsack runs fast!!!

And Lebsack went through the first four obstacles at a pace of just 1:15.

Lebsack’s run for the top time looked effortless as Lebsack hit the buzzer with the night’s fastest time so far!!!

Kaden Lebsack completes the course in 1:49.09.

During the break…

Rachel Garlin fell on Weight For It.

Anthony Porter hit the buzzer!!!

Tiana Webberly, 29-year-old Stuntwoman

Webberly is looking for a follow up to her best season in season 12.

Webberly moved smoothly through the first two obstacles.

“Sweet T” struggled a bit making the transition between sections on Tipping Point.

And the struggle proved fatal as Webberly fell on the fourth obstacle.

Brian Montagnese, 43-year-old Insurance Salesman

Montagnese is running for his dad, who passed away from brain cancer three years ago, and his mom, who is fighting Parkinson’s.

Montagnese looked impressive on the first two obstacles.

And Montagnese looked in great shape until he slipped and fell on Tipping Point.

During the break…

Sophia Lavallee fell on Tipping Point.

Keita Kashiwagi fell on Burn Rubber.

Xavier Dantzler, 16-year-old Junior

Dantzler travels two hours a day on a subway to train for ninja.

Dantzler landed face first on the platform of Burn Rubber. But the landing was successful.

Dantzler’s long run continued as he moved past Tipping Point.

Unfortunately, Dantzler slipped and fell on the second half of V Formation.

But Dantzler will be advancing to the semifinals!!!

During the break…

Victor Chan hit the buzzer!!!

Alex Weber fell on Tipping Point.

Sandy Zimmerman, 44-year-old PE Teacher

Zimmerman won a Judo championship in the Tacoma Dome when she was 12.

It was also the location where Zimmerman became the first mom to hit a buzzer two years ago.

Zimmerman had no issues has she zipped past the first half of the course.

If Zimmerman completed the fourth obstacle, she’d be on her way to the semifinals.

And she did, completing Tipping Point and securing a spot in the next round.

But on the fifth obstacle, Zimmerman tried to skip a V on V Formation but couldn’t land it.

During the break…

Kevin Brekke fell on Broken Bridge.

Lucas Reale hit the buzzer!!!

Joe Moravsky, 32-year-old Meteorologist

Moravsky never tackles the course lacking speed.

And he was through the first three obstacles faster than any ninja so far.

The impressive run continued as Moravsky approached V Formation in less than a minute.

And the Weatherman was skipping rungs and V’s all over the fifth obstacle.

Instead of worrying about the fastest time, Moravsky went for the Mega Wall.

And he did it, hitting the buzzer and becoming the season’s first Mega Wall conquerer!!!
