TV Recap: S02E10 – American Ninja Warrior Junior Kids 2020

American Ninja Warrior Junior Kids Season 2 2020, Episode 10

Season 2 of American Ninja Warrior Jr. rolls on!!!

Let’s review this season’s format:

-Just like last season, ninjas will compete in three divisions: 9-10 years old, 11-12 years old, and 13-14 years old. They will compete in head to head races.

The qualifying rounds feature four ninjas per division. They will start in a seeding round, with the two fastest ninjas from that round taking on the two slowest ninjas in the knockout round.

The winners of the two knockout rounds move on to the final showdown, where the winner will move on to the quarterfinals.

-New this season: instead of waiting until the end of the season to see all the winners, there will be a quarterfinal round episode after three episodes to determine who goes on to the semifinals.

-With the new format, there will only be three semifinal qualifiers, so the fourth spot will be determined with the two fastest non-winners competing for a wildcard spot.

9-10 Year Old Division (Ninja Mentor: Barclay Stockett)

The course: Shrinking Steps, Little Dipper, Spider Walls, Block Run, Flying Squirrel, 13 Foot Warped Wall (with two hand holds)

Seeding Round: Jeremy Lauff vs Kaela Gerson

Jeremy loves Cheetahs and recently adopted one (not for living in the home, of course), while Kaela is a chalk artist who loves skateboarding.

Jeremy had a slight lead going into Spider Walls.

Kaela’s height was an issue on the 3rd obstacle, but she kept pushing forward.

Jeremy stumbled on his run up the Warped Wall at first. But on his second attempt, he skipped a hand hold on his way to hitting the buzzer.

Seeding Round: Carter Samuel vs Payton Myler

Payton went to Africa and created ninja courses while there, while Carter is a star hockey player.

Payton was a semifinalist last season, and that experience showed as she ran through the course.

Trying to catch up, Carter rushed and fell on Spider Walls.

Payton went ahead and hit the buzzer recording her first win of season two.

During the break…

Knockout Round: Jeremy Lauff vs Carter Samuel

The bar slipped off of Little Dipper on Jeremy.

Carter went ahead and finished the course on his way to the Final Showdown.

Knockout Round: Payton Myler vs Kaela Gerson

Shockingly, Payton fell on the Little Dipper.

Kaela made it all the way to Flying Squirrel before falling again.

But this time, Kaela wins and moves onto the Final Showdown.

11-12 Year old Division (Ninja Mentor: Grant McCartney)

The course: Shrinking Steps, Little Dipper, Double Tilt Ladders, Block Run, Wing Nuts, 13 foot Warped Wall (one hand hold)

Seeding Round: Jack David vs Benjamin Rutledge

Born in Africa, Benjamin was adopted and now lives in Murfreesboro, TN (I went to college there!!!). He volunteers at a Wildlife Refuge, while Jack is a star basketball player.

Jack got off to a really fast start.

Benjamin became the Little Dipper’s most recent victim as he fell on the 2nd obstacle.

Jack put in an impressive time, hitting the buzzer in his first race.

During the break…

Seeding Round: Cassidy Short vs Lexi Vazquez

There must be butter on the bars of Little Dipper as Cassidy became the 2nd obstacle’s lastest victim.

Lexi hit the buzzer and recorded the win.

Knockout Round: Jack David vs Cassidy Short

Jack is the “Long Island Ninja” (So, where are you from Jack?) who says Ninja has improved his basketball skills, while Cassidy has gorgeous pink hair and competes in Spartan races.

Cassidy was keeping right behind Jack entering Double Tilt Ladders.

Jack kept a slight lead all the way entering the Wingnuts.

It was there that Cassidy fell.

It was a quite a push, but Jack stayed out in front and advanced to the Final Showdown.

Knockout Round: Lexi Vazquez vs Benjamin Rutledge

Lexi trains with Barclay Stockett, while Benjamin rides unicycles.

Lexi raced out to a slight lead.

Benjamin handled the Little Dipper this time.

And the “Ninja With a Mission” took the lead going into the fourth obstacle.

But during Block Run, Benjamin slipped and fell.

Lexi hit another buzzer and is on her way to the Final Showdown.

13-14 year old Division (Ninja Mentor: Meagan Martin)

The course: Floating Steps, Little Dipper, Crazy Cliffhanger, Block Run, Sky Hooks, 13-foot Warped Wall (no hand holds)

Seeding Round: Abby McGuire vs Ella McRitchie

Ella qualified for the Finals in the 11-12 year old division last season, while Abby is a competitive climber.

Ella had the lead following the Little Dipper.

A foot caught in the net on Little Dipper allowed Abby to catch up.

Abby kept pushing staying right behind Ella, but Ella kept the lead and looked on her way to victory.

But her feet slipped on her way up the Warped Wall.

Abby got a grip on the top of the Wall on her first try and claimed the come from behind victory.

Seeding Round: Trey Williamson vs Josiah Pippel

Josiah takes care of reptiles and build robots, while Trey plays classical piano and works two jobs to pay for his ninja training.

Both ninjas set a fast pace, with Josiah taking a big lead on Crazy Cliffhanger.

Trey slipped on Block Run, but saved it and stayed in the race.

He was no match for Josiah, who set a blistering pace on his way up the Warped Wall and to his first win.

Knockout Round: Josiah Pippel vs Ella McRitchie

In a great race, it was a one-touch dismount that was the difference for Josiah.

But Ella hit the buzzer this time and claimed the number two spot on the Wildcard Leaderboard.

Knockout Round: Abby McGuire vs Trey Williamson

Trey raced out to the lead after the Little Dipper.

But competitive Climber Abby passed Trey on Crazy Cliffhanger.

This race was CLOSE!!!!

The pair was near even on Sky Hooks.

But a one-swing dismount on the fifth obstacle set Abby up for a split second win!!!

9-10 year old Final Showdown: Carter Samuel vs Kaela Gerson

Kaela had a slight lead going into the Spider Walls.

But Kaela’s height is a huge disadvantage on the third obstacle.

Carter passed Kaela there and never looked back.

Carter hit the buzzer and advanced to the quarterfinals!!!

11-12 year old Final Showdown: Jack David vs Lexi Vazquez

Jack’s best time was five seconds faster than Lexi’s.

And Jack showed that speed with a slight lead after two obstacles.

Lexi stayed right behind him, and a stumble on Block Run allowed Lexi to pass Jack.

Lexi kept that lead, showing great body control on Wingnuts and hitting the buzzer a split second before Jack and advancing to the quarterfinals!!!

But Jack does sit in the 2nd spot in the Wildcard Standings.

13-14 year old Final Showdown: Josiah Pippel vs Abby McGuire

Josiah raced out to the early lead.

He added to the lead on Crazy Cliffhanger.

Abby kept a good pace throughout, but Josiah lead from start to finish.

Josiah made easy work of the course, hitting the buzzer and advancing to the quarterfinals.
